The government is preparing to snatch the Budhigandaki hydropower project from a Chinese company. The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has submitted a proposal to the Council of Ministers to snatch the Budhigandaki project from China Gejuwa Water and Power Group and build it with indigenous investment.
According to sources in the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal had submitted a proposal to the Council of Ministers about two weeks ago. A source in the Prime Minister’s Office and the Office of the Council of Ministers said, “The ministry has negotiated with the Chinese company to move the project forward.
The proposal had reached the Council of Ministers even before Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to Nepal. An official of the Prime Minister’s Office said that the issue could not be discussed in the Council of Ministers as Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had to visit India soon.
