CD deposits line 86% as deposits continue to rise
Deposits in the banking system have been steadily improving in the last days of the fiscal year. The credit to deposit ratio (CD ratio) has been steadily declining as the number of daily deposits has increased.
According to Nepal Rastra Bank, the CD ratio of the banking sector has dropped to 86.98 percent on Monday compared to the previous day. The CD ratio was 87.14 percent till Sunday. Deposits in the system increased by Rs 3 billion from Rs 5.1 trillion on the previous day to Rs 5.11 trillion on Monday.
The total debt in the system has been steadily declining. It has come down to Rs 46.90 trillion on Monday from Rs 46.94 trillion on Sunday. The CD ratio seems to be improving overnight, even as deposits continue to rise and loans continue to decline.
Deposits of commercial banks increased by Rs 2 billion on Monday. Deposits increased from Rs 4.513 trillion to Rs 4.515 trillion on Monday.
